An article discusses the #MeToo movement in China, where survivors of sexual assault come together to support one another. From using hashtags to share their experiences to offering advice to those dealing with similar situations, the movement has grown worldwide, empowering women across the globe. In China, however, #MeToo has been censored. This means that posts containing the term may be shadowbanned, blocked, or potentially removed. As a way of resisting this control, Chinese women have developed an alternative way of referring to the movement online: using the homophones of the emojis for rice and bunny, which together are pronounced as “mi-tu” (米兔), sounding similar to “Me Too”.
