Reya Ahmed: The Margins of Memory

Reya Ahmed explores the idea of memory and the passing of time through illustration. Taking inspiration from South Asian and Muslim miniature paintings she crafts a triptych of risograph-printed illustrations to convey themes of utopia, childhood memory and growth.

Having experimented a bit with Risograph printing in the previous brief. I really want to delve into it more in the self-directed brief. I want to explore how the technique can be used to enhance narratives about memory just as Ahmed has done. Furthermore, my project deals not only with memory but also with the idea of opportunity cost and regret regarding the way we capture and document memory; I feel like Riso, with its limited colour palette, lends itself to this idea.
