The Martian is a 2015 epic science fiction survival film directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by Drew Goddard. Based on Andy Weir‘s 2011 novel, and distributed by 20th Century Fox. The film depicts an astronaut’s struggle to survive on Mars after being left behind and NASA‘s efforts to return him to Earth.

The Martian follows astronaut Mark Watney, who is accidentally left behind on Mars after a mission abort. Believed dead, he survives using limited supplies. Watney grows food, creates water, and communicates with NASA, facing harsh conditions and repeated setbacks. His resilience and humor sustain him and invite the viewer to experience the tense survival alongside him.
