’Serial Experiments Lain’ – Directed by Ryutaro Nakamura and Created by Yasuyuki Ueda (1998)

An anime television series 13 episodes long about an adolescent girl in suburban Japan. It discusses themes of reality, identity and communication. It makes the audience rethink the problems of modern day relationships and social alienation. The show has influences of cyberpunk elements as well as conspiracy theories and the reliance of the age of decadence.
