DU HASARD
His purpose is not to paint a flattering self-portrait of the artist who rose to fame in the 1940s. Nor is he interested in showcasing his social connections or private life. Instead, as Péret sought to do with the Place du Saint-Sulpice, he is exploring the possibility of describing a specific Parisian site at a particular moment. The objective reality of accidental decisions is ultimately the most reliable way to depict the similar landscapes of our lives. More than three decades later, Daniel’s book retains the charm and freshness of its forgiving state at birth. The life described in the book seems to be our life. Accidental anecdotes and topography are more faithful to the heart than memory.
