“Photo Objects” (2010) by Alexa Meyerman is a project that explores the relationship between photographs and physical objects. Meyerman investigates what happens when a photograph — usually seen as a flat, visual record — becomes a tangible, three-dimensional object. By printing, folding, cutting, or manipulating photographs, she transforms them from simple images into sculptural forms.
Through this process, Meyerman blurs the boundaries between image and object, memory and reality, questioning what it means for a photograph to “represent” something. The work encourages viewers to reconsider their relationship with photographs — seeing them not just as visual reproductions, but as physical, emotional, and material artifacts that carry presence and meaning beyond the image itself.
