‘Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse’, 2014

At the beginning of our E&E project, we had to individually go away and think about our own speculative visions for the future. One series that I remembered from childhood was the hyper-optimistic / hyperfantasy show, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse which explored hope within artificial systems, and embodied a constructed but perfect worldbuilding.  After watching a couple episodes, it quickly influenced my desire to avoid a completely bleak future.

What began merely as initial interest in optimism later manifested itself within my own concept of an “ambitopia”, where systems offer convenience, care, stability, while also carrying subtle constraints on freedom.
