Peter and Alison Smithson designed the future home for the Daily Mail’s ideal home exhibition. The exhibition was held at the Olympia Exhibition Center from March 6 to 31, 1956. The future house is not intended for actual production, but for theoretical discussion. It is designed around a courtyard garden, providing natural light and private outdoor space. There are almost no windows on the outer wall, so that the house can be placed directly side by side. In order to facilitate the exhibition, the house does not have a roof, but an elevated platform is set up so that visitors can see the inside of the house from above. Household appliances and work areas are hidden in small compartments, thus forming a spacious open space for living.
