In 1977, NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft, each carrying an identical golden phonograph record. These records contain sound and images selected to represent the diversity of life on Earth, intended for any intelligent extraterrestrial life that might encounter them. The record cover includes a diagram explaining how to play it and decode the image which is instruction for an unknown future audience who may have no context for understanding our civilization.
