Princess Mononoke is a 1997 animated film by Studio Ghibli about a young prince named Ashitaka who becomes entangled in a conflict between the people of Iron Town, who are destroying the forest for resources, and the forest’s animal gods and Princess Mononoke, a human girl raised by wolves who fiercely protects her home. While seeking a cure for a curse, Ashitaka tries to mediate between the two sides, which are led by Lady Eboshi of Iron Town and the wolf-raised San (Princess Mononoke). The film explores themes of humanity’s relationship with nature and the cycle of destruction caused by unchecked industrialization and hatred.
