This feud between two very famous artists first began in 2009, when Banksy stencilled a wall which already had Robbo’s street art on it (Regent’s Canal, Camden). Robbo took it personal and even emerged from retirement to paint over Banksy’s work. Two continued to do so for a while. The conflict was not just between two artists, but also between traditional graffiti and street art.
To me, street art always stood for rebellion and social and political commentary, as it is a very independent way of self-expression and society’s critique for artists. Regent’s Canal is where I was shooting my T&M project, so researching the history of the location gave my project more contextual background and “essence”, given by canal’s urban landscape and histories of artistic rivalries.
