Site of Sites is an ever-growing web-archive made in 2023 by a group of undisclosed designers. This archive is made up of interesting, creative and innovative websites hand-picked by their team. Websites are either found by the team or sent directly to them for review and I frequently find myself looking through their collection for inspiration or just out of awe.
They upload a collection of gifs and screen grabs of one or multiple websites every week which serves as a time capsule for websites which tend to change. Moreover, Site of Sites has an Instagram page which updates in tandem with their website, making it more accessible for a wider audience to appreciate web design and web designers alike.
This website is quite good in many ways. It can help bring more eyes to smaller websites, web designers and businesses while also creating an archive of beautiful websites and serving designers who would like inspiration. In that sense, this website is positive. On the other hand, it could be argued that in creating this archive they begin to set a precedent on what ‘good’ design is which could potentially limit design practices to specific styles or conventions depending on their criteria for what websites they feature. I do think though that is a very positive and friendly communal space in which designers from all over the world are featured – a hub for many designers to help many designers.
