Anselm Kiefer employs metaphorical forms in his work. In his narrative referencing World War II, he transforms a bathtub into a battlefield, placing a toy ship inside it and covering it with freezing icing to express the sense of having nowhere to escape and a predetermined future. Through this, he expands and compresses the spatial meaning of ordinary objects.
