The immensely successful Hayward Gallery exhibition Eyes, Lies and Illusions marked the provisional end of a whole series of shows centred on objects drawn from the collection of the German experimental film maker, professor and curator Werner Nekes. Eyes, Lies and Illusions explored the history of optical invention and ‘pre cinematic’ media, and at the same time examined the reliability of visual perception.
A text focussed on the idea of “making the impossible possible” using the art of illusion.
